Aboriginals have lived in Australia for over 40 000 years. ...
Authorities had the power to separate families and condemn aboriginals to living in reserves separating them from their land, their people and their culture. ... Because they believed that aboriginals, like children, could not take care of themselves the Europeans gave themselves the power to control the aboriginals in order to protect them. This policy allowed white Australians full power giving the aboriginals no freedom. Also because the Europeans didn’t understand the aboriginals they decided what was best for them without really thinking about the cultures and traditions that aboriginals would have to live without. But infact they did the opposite because the aboriginals had been made to live in reserves and were living in such close quarters along side of the Europeans they often caught diseases such as the flu or smallpox.
