The terracotta warriors, which were discovered in Sha’anxi, were part of the imperial guard, which was meant for the tomb of Qin Shi Huangti, the first emperor. These warriors were designed for the purpose of surrounding and protecting the emperor in hiss death. The warriors have proven to be one of the most important archaeological finds in China as they are contributing factor in our knowledge and understanding of the emperor and his dynasty.
During the findings of the terracotta warriors, four pits were discovered and a great mausoleum with the emperor in it. ... It was discovered in March 1974 and contained 3200 terracotta warriors all standing in a military formation arranged in battle orders facing east.
