... “The Pearl” is about Kino, a young Mexican diver who finds a great pearl. As the story proceeds, Kino becomes more and more protective of the pearl until it takes over his life. Eventually Kino says the pearl is “his soul”. ... The doctor then treated Kino’s son so he could get money because he thought Kino’s pearl would bring great wealth. Before he found out about Kino’s pearl he wanted nothing to do with Kino and his sick son. Later in the story someone sneaks into Kino’s house to try and steal the pearl, the doctor is one of the suspects. ... The priest thought about the pearl and what wealth it would bring.
