Universal Theme of Dark Love Most things in life are universal. A few universal themes that revolves around the world are life, love, and death. Throughout time in literature, universal themes have been used to make a creation that pulls the audience in and leads to a specific understanding of human existence. Choosing dark love as my universal theme, I used it as how love can affect one in pain, and because of dark love. I define dark love in my opinion, as confusion with one’s love manner in situations like heartbreaks, depressions, etc. Love can be the most wonderful element in the world, but it can be the worst thing in life. Loneliness has always been a friend of mine. Therefore, I found this theme to reveal and express myself in lines. Researching for poems, I found two intimate poems that related to me. One of them by Davey Havok, who wrote “Leaving”, expressed itself by how he knew a heart could change even if it has been ruined by drastic love.
