It was the end of summer; the heat was intense. Our family lived in Houston, Texas, My father was to take us to the coast for a week. It was hurricane season, and the weather could be unpredictable. I was on a mission; I wanted a tan. My father and I went shopping, as I wanted a new swimming suit. We came home with my first bikini. It was yellow and tied at the hips, and in three places on the top. I was so excited when I got home, to have such a grown up suit. The weather man forecast a hurricane, for Galveston and lots of rain. I was devastated. This meant that the fun in the sun was over. This is where I went wrong. My father owned a personal home tanning machine, so I decided to use it. No one was home; it was the perfect time to snatch the machine. I found the tanning machine and took it to my room. Then, I got the oil from the bathroom. I was determined to have a tan before school started. I did not bother to read the instruction and I did not see the need for the funny goggles, after all they made rings around your eyes.
