Output-Devices Output devices enable your computer to communicate with you. this enables you to see the results of a calculation, the text you have typed, and many other things. The two main output devices are monitors, and printers. Without and output device you will not be able to communicate with your computer and thus you will not be able to control or work on your computer. As such if you do not have eyes and ears and a mouth you are not able to communicate with the outer world. There are two main types of out put devices they are 1) Monitor 2) Printer Human interaction with our environment requires several stages of information processing and action. Firstly we receive a stimulus from our surroundings. This could be through several body senses, such as sight, sound or feel/touch, as an example reading the text on a visual display unit (VDU). Once in our bodies this stimulus travels to our brain via neural pathways. Processing of the information within the brain occurs in order to gain clear understanding of what it is , back to the example, the text that entered through our eyes is identified as a miss spelt word. The next stage is to choose a response, this involves accessing memories from previous experiences In our example most people would choose to delete the incorrect word, as this is something learnt and remembered. Once a person has identified the stimulus and selected a response, the final stage is to co-ordinate our muscles to action the response. History of design Scientists, engineers and the military used first-generation computer. Input devices were in the form of punched cards and magnetic tape.
