     A reasonable place to begin examining the effects of aging on sexuality is to consider the biological and physiological responses to sexual stimulation in older males such as organic factors that stem from vascular, neurologic, or hormonal causes. ... Heart disease is another major factor contributing to erectile difficulties in aging men, especially if a heart attack has previously occurred however the risk is low and an active sex life may decrease the risk of a future attack (Laumann, 2003). ... Aging men who experience psychological effects such as anxiety, depression and lowered self-esteem are certainly prone to developing sexual problems. Evidence of the latter stems from a study that was conducted called the Massachusetts Male Aging Study where a large random sample of men aged fourty to seventy years old revealed that erectile dysfunction was present in 52% of these men who experienced negative psychological side-effects (Willert,, 2000). ... The latter illustrates how intrapersonal issues such as bereavement, anxiety and lowered self-esteem contribute to why aging men develop erectile difficulties. ...      
     By assessing and evaluating the causes related to male sexual dysfunction among the elderly has certainly proved to be a common factor among a high percentage of aging men. ... However, research suggests that there are also a number of treatments available such as oral, medical/surgical and therapy that proves to be successful for the majority of aging men and their concerns for their inability to maintain or produce an erection.
