There are several reasons why the English developed two distinct societies. First, most were single men in the colonies and had no one to monitor them. Second, religion played a major role. When New England was founded, it was based off Puritanism, when the Chesapeake region was founded, it was based off of Protestantism. When comparing these two regions, we must look at several perspectives including families and religion. One must look at the family size when comparing these two regions. Referring to document b for New England no one was older than forty years old with large families while document c suggests that the Chesapeake region had smaller families and made life past forty years old.
