Technology and Workplace Stress
Introduction
The continually increasing use of technology in the workplace has had a measurable influence on the amount of stress in today’s workplace. ... com that discuss some of these stressors as they relate to technology. In addition, I will discuss some ethical implications of workplace stress.
In the article “Stress and the Workplace”, on the website Lifepositive.com, they discuss a project on stress at work, by Andy Ellis of Ruskin College, Oxford, UK ( 3). Ellis has shown that stress adversely affects how an employee performs. He has also shown that in the beginning, many employees feel a sense of rejuvenation when faced with workplace stressors and can actually show enhanced performance. However, if the stress is constant or ratcheted up even further, performance may decline and the employee may suffer from degenerating health ( 3). ... com article states that stress varies from person to person, but it lists these typical symptoms of job stress ( 4):
• Insomnia
• Loss of mental concentration
• Anxiety
• Absenteeism
• Depression
• Substance abuse
• Extreme anger or frustration
• Family conflict
• Physical illnesses
The article discusses several causes of workplace stress, including technology issues.
