Throughout The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the women in the book are supposed to depict the typical Jazz Age woman. When I think of a Jazz Age woman, I think of Daisy Buchanan and Jordan Baker. ... Daisy and Jordan are the flappers of the Jazz Age.
As the 1920’s began, women were dressing more seductively and pushing the limit. Not only were women pushing the dress code, they were doing many other things that were deemed inappropriate before the 20’s were deemed inappropriate. Originally skirts were nine inches from the ground, but now women were wearing them up to the knee (Walck, 61). ... Women bobbed their hair and wore tightly fitted cloth hats (Walck, 61). ... By 1929, women were up to an excess of a pound of make-up (Walck, 61). Men were allowed to smoke in public up to this point and now even women were smoking in public (Walck, 60).
