Friendship is like love. People often think they have found their ?soul mates? until they discover that they have been cheated. By then, it is too late, because the harm has already been done. People?s hearts have already been slashed and whipped brutally; the loving and understanding companions they once thought they knew became not only strangers but also their most hated enemies. I, too, have been betrayed by a friend whom I had greatly valued and cherished, and I?ll never forget how heart aching the experience made me feel. Elizabeth and I met in grade 10 on the first day of school. Just as the warning bell ringed sharply behind me, I stepped out from the pouring rain into the shabby Math portable classroom, and wiped my wet shoes on the thin, smelly carpet. Glancing around for a seat, I notice that in the first row where few people were sitting, a longhaired girl was staring curiously at me with her large and round eyes. She smiled uneasily at me in a friendly manner and tapped her pale fingers on the desk beside her as if she was inviting me to sit in the empty seat. Being entirely soaked from the rain and exhausted from walking down six flights of stairs, I walked eagerly towards her and sat down. We soon introduced ourselves to each other and became genuine friends. In class, we enjoyed each other?s company.
