RESEARCH PROJECT OVERVIEW For English 1302, you will perform research on an original topic and present your research and conclusions in a persuasive essay, using MLA-style formatting and documentation throughout the essay. The purpose of the assignment is to build your college-level research skills. You must have ten sources for your paper. The sources may be primary sources (materials from those directly involved with an issue or situation) or secondary sources (materials about an issue/situation written by those not directly involved). The 1302 research project includes eight mini-assignments that build upon each other. The chart below shows the mini-assignments. Following the chart is a brief description of each mini-assignment. mini-assignment © Weight† Research question 5% “What I Already Know” paper 5% Research log 5% Annotated bibliography 5% Thesis statement and outline 20% Evidence of research 10% Typed, rough draft 30% Final draft 20% Note: All assignments are due at the beginning of class on the due date.
