The article I reviewed was “Personal Best: Mental Preparation” by Gail Waesche Kislevtiz in the magazine Running Times. This article talked about different ways that you can mentally prepare yourself for a race. The main focus was on Kate Fonshell, 1996 Olympic Trial 10,000m winner, who talked about her trials and tribulations with mentally preparing for a race. The main incident she talked about was when she stepped up to the line of the 10,000m race at the 1996 Olympic Trials and she thought to herself that she did not belong there and everyone is faster, better, and more worthy of being there than her.
