Gandhi was a man that was respected, not only throughout his community, however throughout the world. He was known for the great things that he had done for his nation and for the lessons he had taught the humankind. Throughout his lifetime, Gandhi was beaten, discriminated against and threatened; nevertheless he still fought for his people and what they stood for. What surprised the world was the way that Gandhi fought back, through passive resistance. The major goal in his life was that India would have their own rights and gain independence, not through violence, but through passive resistance and civil disobedience.
