“Uh, Doc, I don’t think you understand my problem. I need heart surgery. ... But all those who encounter me will remember my name; because I will give them a reason to. I want to be a doctor. Or better phrased, I will be a doctor. I am well on my way, and I challenge what tries to stop me. ... I hear this countless times from my mother, who believes she can never say it enough. ... Actually, I am usually delighted for this reminder of truth. ... I have found that they possess determination. ... I wish I was saying that achieving one’s chosen destiny was that simple. But I speak of only the most imperative part, and the biggest hill to get over: figuring out how to get there.
Thanks mom, this is what has propelled me as far as I have come. It has taken me to Calculus III as a senior, where in a class of only 8, I am the only girl. I am there to learn math in three-space, as well as to represent. ... I have flung myself as high as I could, taking nothing but A. ... classes for college credit, so that I have three semesters of college already out of the way. ... Scholar with Honors, I also stand as the only girl.
