Opportunities for Women in Britain at the outbreak of war 1914
In 1901 and 1908 the establishment of the Army and Navy Nurse Corps opened the door for women in the military but ever so slightly. It wasnt until the United States got involved in World War One that some parts of the government got serious about using woman power. In 1914 there were less than 6,000,000 women working and a population of about 23,700,000 women in Britain. Many women had no choice but to work in Domestic service, textiles, or sweated trades because they were forced to leave school at 12 and they needed to make money.
