The company produces a full range of model offerings from minivechicles to large trucks. In 2002 Toyota totaled 6.16 million with its Toyota and Lexus brands along with its Dailhatsu and Hino. Currently Toyota has twelve plants and eleven manufacturing subsidiaries and affiliates in Japan, the company also maintains forty-five manufacturing companies in twenty-six countries and regions, which produce Lexus and Toyota brand vehicles and components. The company employs two hundred forty-six people worldwide, on a consolidated basis, and markets vehicles in more than one hundred forty countries. More than ninety percent of the companies sales is made up of automotive business, including sales finance, which in the fiscal year March 2003 the company came to a consolidated 16.05 trillion. Toyota has a growing portfolio of diversified operations, with ventures in telecommunications, prefabricate housing and leisure boats. History of Toyota: Toyota Motor Co. Ltd was first established in 1937 as a spin-off from Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, one of the world’s leading manufactures of weaving machinery. The company was then headed by Japan’s “king of Investors” Sakichi Toyoda. The patent rights to one of his machines was sold to Platt Brothers (UK) ant the money went towards the development and test building of Toyota’s first automobiles. The SA Model by Toyota was first launched in 1947.
