Published on Feb 19, 2004 An autopsy performed on a 4-year-old boy from Khon Kaen has confirmed the country’s ninth bird-flu case, the Public Health Ministry said yesterday. The victim died on February 3, suspected of having contracted the disease. He fell ill after playing with chickens raised at his home. Of the nine confirmed infections, seven people have died and two others have fully recovered. As of yesterday, 20 suspected bird-flu cases had been reported in Thailand. Eight died and the other eight were successfully treated. The remaining four are still being treated in hospitals. A two-year-old girl from Phatthalung is the latest suspected victim. She remains in intensive care. All confirmed and suspected victims fell sick before January 27, the date when disease control measures were fully enforced throughout the Kingdom.
