... In Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain, Huck and Tomfs personalities are like magnets. When Huck and Tom are placed together, one can see that they are polar opposites even though they share general characteristics, like the magnetism of magnets, because the specifics of those characteristics are different, like the alignment of the magnet in respect to the other magnet. Huck and Tom share many general characteristics, but the specifics of those characteristics establish them as opposites.
Huck is a very self-sufficient type of person who forms his own opinions contrary to what society may hold as self-evident. This lack of conformity to what society holds as true is a facet of his dislike of society as shown when Huck is leaving land after seeing the feudfs ending, and he says that g[he] wished he had never come ashore c to see such thingsh (107).
