One girl, oh another girl sweet there were two girls, twins. December 27, 1955 was the date the great event began for me. Dressed alike for exactly twelve years I just knew I was a girl from the get go. However as I reflect on my flash bulb memories I also see I was a girl growing up with all females, with the exception of my father of course he was a male. My home consisted of two sisters older, by nine years and they were also twins. So I got first hand knowledge about being a female by watching them interact in the world as a female. Playing with the dolls, playing house and school the automatic role of the “girl” stuck with me. Therefore as my age grew older I became very aware of the chores that girls were expected to do in the home. Dishes would have been my first experience in the world of the kitchen, as my mother prepared the meal the girls set the table and made sure it was always ready and waiting for father to come for meal time. Quietly I sat and listened to my parent’s conversation of daily events and so on. Once that painful period passed I would set out to clear the table and wash or dry the dishes, which ever one was my turn to do.
