One might have to understand where Barry Bonds is coming from when he states the above comment. Barry Bonds has a very opinionated sense of nationality within the sports culture through the influence of his father, Bobby Bonds, and he’s godfather Willie Mays. Both his godfather and his father experienced racism and prejudice first hand, whereas Barry Bonds has not. With this insight, Bonds may envision himself going through the same circumstances, particularly not getting the same acknowledgment as Babe Ruth because of Barry Bond’s nationality.
