Everyday excitement

"BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!" I jerk my head around in a panic to find out what's making this horrendous sound at 7:00 in the morning. I immediately spot the alarm clock and raise my heavy arm to turn it off. My hand drops on the alarm clock and I fumble to find the switch. What relief I feel the instant the noise stops. My heart slows down and I can hear myself breath again. I let my head sink back into the pillow and I curl myself into the fetal position with my comforter wrapped tightly around my shoulders. Oh this feels so good. All I want to do right now is rest in this position for an hour longer. I feel my breathing slow even more and my head falls deeper into the pillow as my body relaxes. "No," I tell myself. "No, you have to get up. If you fall asleep now you'll miss your class. Get up! Get up! Get up! Throw the comforter off. Just do it. You have to do it to get up." The first attempt to throw the comforter off can be extremely dangerous if I don't jump out of bed. The cold air in the room will make me curl back in bed, gripping the comforter tighter than before. Now the comforter becomes my only protection against muscle- tightening cold.
