Death Dying

The following research paper will take a look at the topic of Death and Dying. Last year I did a presentation on a book called Living and Dying at Murray Manor, by J. ... In this book, Gubrium mentioned that “everyday, the clientele of Murray Manor live with the knowledge that dying and death are imminent events for them. They not only experience death themselves, but are witness to the experiences of others,” (p. ... The following paper will discuss not only the topic of death as an experience, but also how older people’s feelings change about death and dying after witnessing the death of others around them.
When I decided to write this paper on death and dying, I never realized what an extensive topic it was, and how much there was to learn about death and dying. DEFINING DEATH & DYING:
Since death and dying can be defined in so many different aspects, it is very hard to pin point one definition of death and dying. But the question of when, or how, or even why is something that is always in the back of my mind and it is for that reason that I was curious to find out how other people, and in particular the older generation, feel about death and dying.

FEELINGS OF DEATH & DYING AT MURRAY MONOR:
In Living and Dying at Murray Manor most of the clientele, regardless of health status, all defined their futures in terms of death. They all believed they were dying, they just didn’t know when. I believe they thought more about their own death because they continuously witnessed the death of their peers. Novak (1997) stated, “In 1992 Lavigne and Levesque had done a study in long-term facilities in Montreal and discovered that only a third of the clientele thought about their own death when a peer passed away. ... 297) Novak also noted that older people showed less fear of death therefore were “able to find meaning and purpose in the time they have left, and they feel in control of their lives.
