sdsdcxvcvxThe Northern Ireland Weekend Friday 31st May to Monday 3rd June 2002 After many weeks of anticipation the day finally dawned when the King RAT Pack would cross over the Irish sea to Northern Ireland. Eight bikes left Kings to join another four at Cumbernauld, when you include our brave pillion passengers this made a total of sixteen members all eager to hit the road. Member Bike Stewart Miller Triumph Sprint RS Elaine Petrie Pillion Ian Ness Triumph Bonneville Brian Singer Triumph Sprint RS Clive Lundie Suzuki GSX 1400 Kevin Skea Triumph Sprint RS Gordon "Scotty" Mackay Triumph Legend Derek Dalgleish Triumph Thunderbird Jackie Watt Pillion Tony McParland Triumph Trophy Hazel McParland Pillion Stuart Emslie Triumph Trophy Margaret Emslie Pillion Drew O'Neill Triumph Sprint ST Brian Easton Triumph Trophy Jim Mulgrew Yamaha XJR 1300 Jim lead the pack from Cumbernauld through the busy Glasgow traffic and onto the M77 / A77 towards Cairnryan, the two Brian's had other ideas though and decided to head for Glasgow airport and fly instead of taking the ferry with the rest of the pack. This plan came unstuck when they realised that Ryan Air did not consider their bikes to be hand luggage, this resulted in a mad dash to catch up with the rest of us. The remainder of the run to Cairnryan was then trouble free and we all enjoyed the fine twisty road to the ferry in glorious sunshine. When we finally boarder P&O's European Causeway the adventure began in earnest, as you would expect it was a mad rush to the bar for a few beers, a trend that didn't change throughout the weekend. This was the point where the group had the first real chance to get to know each other, the jokes came thick and fast and the general high spirits made the crossing great fun. European Causeway After disembarking at Larne the pack made its winding way to Portrush and McLaughlins Inn our base for the weekend. Imagine our surprise when we arrived to find that the Inn had a brand new extension with huge ensuite bedrooms equipped to a very high standard, shear bliss. Once we had made ourselves at home most of the pack headed straight to the bar, Scotty, Kevin, the two Brian's, Drew, Stewart and myself as it was dry (this was Ireland we may not have got another chance) decided to explore the Giants Causeway, what a wonderful sight, Scotty then baffled us all with science explaining how this marvellous spectacle was created.
