I chose to see Nelson Mandela’s Anwar Sadat Lecture For Peace not only for this extra credit assignment but because this was a once in a lifetime chance to see and hear words of wisdom from a man who stands for such honorable causes and a man who has led such a life of struggle to improve mankind. ... Silence surrounded Cole’s full house and floor as Mandela began to speak slowly, solemnly, and passionately. ... Mandela proposed the notion of creating an International Committee comprised of the U. ... When he proposed this to Bush, he denied the proposal which Mandela said was a “big mistake.” It seemed that Mandela did not think too highly of Bush after his decision. ... Mandela also made the final point that this war is also against poverty and deprivation and that it’s a global responsibility to cure these causes of terrorism.
Mandela’s Lecture for Peace could relate to the theme of Fusco and his idea of Pan American, and that by understanding and educating people on multi-culturalism would be a way to get away from racial issues. But to relate a theme to the terrorist attacks, which is Mandela’s main theme and reason for further promoting peace, I think that perhaps these terrorist were angered by American policy, and how we interfere and try to govern other countries for the benefits, but they don’t see it that way.
