Mysticism can be defined as an “approach to faith emphasizing inner experience, perhaps to the point of actively rejecting intellectual approaches” . Throughout history, many people have had mystical experiences, and a large number of these mystics were women. While male mystics’ visions were more focused on suffering, female ones were joyful feelings related to a more physical aspect, rather than intellectual. The gender of the mystic played a big role on how the visions were perceived. Women tend to be more sentimental, and are believed to have a far more spiritual connection with God and religion; on the other hand, men are more intellectual and not as sensitive as women are.
