Legalization of football gambling in Hong Kong and its economic and social benefits
What is the most controversial issue in Hong Kong? ... All of the above are troublesome problems, but none of these are as controversial as the proposal for the legalization of football gambling, which has stirred up a furious debate among Hong Kong citizens. ... For me, I am in favor of the motion since it can bring us economic and social benefits. In this article, I will first state the benefits to the economy related to the legalization of football gambling, which is then followed by a discussion on its favorable social impacts, especially in the forms of recreational opportunities and promotion of sports culture in Hong Kong.
Supposing the legalization of football gambling will result in many serious social problems as well as high social costs, some Hong Kong citizens believed that this proposal couldnˇ¦t benefit our society at all. On the contrary, authorizing football gambling has lots of advantages as follows:
First of all, it will lead to net economic benefits for depressed communities. So far, the global economic downturn and the Asian business recession have caused many troubles in Hong Kong, specifically, financial deficit and unemployment.
