In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, the motif of illusion versus reality is
prevalent throughout the play. This motif is expressed mainly through the characters of Hamlet
and King Claudius. ...
After the death of King Hamlet, Prince Hamlet if sought out by the ghost of the late king
and is told to seek revenge. Hamlet also learns that it was his uncle, Claudius, who was the one
that poisoned the prior king. This all becomes prevalent during Act II when Hamlet decides to
use antic disposition in order to throw everyone off so no one will know what he is trying to do.
By doing this Hamlet is building up a “world of seems” in order to expose the king of his
wrongdoing. Then in Act III scene 2, Hamlet tells Horatio that “there is a play tonight before the
king, one scene of it comes near the circumstance which I have told thee of my father’s death.
