Conclusion of the Address In George W. Bush’s State of the Union address, his conclusion reflects the proper structure of the speech as defined by Sprague and Stuart. With the speech lasting close to two hours, certainly qualifying it as a detailed and lengthy speech, the necessity of a proper and effective conclusion was crucial to Bush’s intention of making the speech memorable to his listeners as well as conveying the summation of all his political points and newly laid policies. As our text claims, the conclusion is most important to the speech if not for the simple reason than that what is said last is most likely to be remembered by the receiving audience. Thus, in the mist of his many policy claims, the closure Bush uses, most effectively in my opinion, is within the mindset of ten year old Ashley Pearson. Utilizing her innocence and general communicative straightforwardness, he quotes two lines in her letter asking him what she could do to “save” the country.
