Gender Perceptions
Living in the modern world, it may be difficult for one to establish a precise perception of gender due to the ever-changing definitions our society assigns to gender roles and sexual identities. As one grows up in today’s society, one is surrounded by other people’s view of gender, such as family, peers, school, and the media. ... The environment one is raised in often affects one’s own opinion on gender. My own beliefs on gender roles in society have been most heavily influenced by my family, whereas my knowledge and understanding of sexuality has primarily stemmed from my friends, school, and media. Because of the instability of social conventions and even varying cross-cultural perceptions, my stance on gender has somewhat changed and progressed throughout my life, and although I have always attempted to maintain my own view, I have found it to sometimes fluctuate depending on my surroundings. ...
I believe my perception of gender roles to be somewhat conservative when it comes to family, however I cannot say that I lack liberal views when it comes to gender roles in the academic and working world. ...
Other aspects of gender have not remained so unwavering from one surrounding to another.
