Senorita Extraviados 1. This film moved me deeply and I feel that these girls and their families have not gotten justice. I think the main point of this movie was to link corruption to the death of over two hundred girls. The fact that none of the cases have been solved shows that these women are not important in their community. Portillo had a difficult task in making an argument about something that hasn’t yet been solved. She did a brilliant job in portraying her concepts. 2. Portillo uses very effective emotional appeal by interviewing families of the victims. Despite the horrible stories, the people interviewed do not cry. Instead they have a look of shock and pain on their faces which reaches out to the audience even deeper. Portillo uses “evil” without resorting to melodrama by the haunting and eerie music. The dissonant chords hypnotize you into the families’ horrible stories. In a direct testimony, one mother said that her parakeet knew that something was wrong and that it had died when her daughter died. The direct testimony of the woman who went to jail was so chilling. She relayed that the victims were surrounded and raped and had their nipples chewed off which was overwhelming to hear.
