The Treasury Department My department is on the treasury of the United States. This department was established in September Second 1789. It is located on 1500 Pennsylvania ave., NW (2020). The secretary of the treasury department is John W. Snow. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on the 8/2/1939. John Snow became president Bush’s second treasury secretary in February 2003,replacing Paul H. O’Neil whom the president felt had not been a good spokes man for the administration’s economical policies. Before John becoming the treasury’s secretary, John Snow spent 14 years as the chairman of CSX, the countries largest railroad, and he served as an under secretary in the department of transportation. One of snows major jobs was selling president’s bush’s controversial 2003 tax cut. The function of the department of treasury is to report to congress and the president on the financial status or state of the government and the economy, regulates the interstate and foreign sale of alcohol and firearms, supervises the printing of stamps for the united states post office service, curbs counterfeiting, and operates the custom service which regulates and taxes imports.
