The importance of a Warm Up
Netball holds various positions that cover a variety in the distance of areas that need to be covered. ...
But before starting any game or activity, practices or drills it is significant that the performer carry¡¦s out a warm up. This warm up will not only increase the ability that a performer holds, but will decrease any chance of injury as well as any muscle soreness. Yet, in the warm up it is essential that the three energy systems are used; Aerobic, anaerobic and the lactic acid system. ... The average warm up contains three stages yet their progression and time spent on them are often varied due to the standard being played or the depth energy required in the game. ...
Overall the warm up will cover all of the needed aspects in the body that is required before a game in order to be successful.
The warm up gives at least 6 advantages to the body of which I can outline and explain in order to show not only the importance of what a warm up holds and how without carrying out a warm up it will give great disadvantage to the player. The main 6 reasons are:
ľ Warm up increases the body temperature
ľ It raises the pulse rate
ľ It prepares the muscles for movement and decreases the chance of injury
ľ It warms up the muscle fibres and gives them more flexibility
ľ It enables the player to focus on the hand at task
ƒæ The blood viscosity is reduced and the bloods ease of flow increases therefore affecting the body¡¦s vascular system.
It is important that in any activity including netball for the body temperature to be raised before the start of a game and this is obtained through the start of the warm up.
