Tradition and beliefs has shaped the social culture of society for many years. Prehistoric and tribal religion is thought of as a vast and complex phenomenon. The first of human faiths contain general themes such as animism and shamanism. Animism is the belief that everything in nature has a soul or spirit. Shamanism is the belief that some people can travel in trance to heaven or underworld to recover stolen souls or to intercede with the gods. There are many different cultures and religions that have their own views of a god, but the widespread view is of the ultimate god. In tribal cultures life is a series of initiations.
