Background knowledge
Calcium carbonate + hydrochloric acid calcium chloride + carbon dioxide + water
When hydrochloric acid is added to calcium carbonate it fizzes until it has all been turned into calcium chloride and water. ...
Variables
These are the factors which affect the rate of reaction. They are:
• Quantity of acid
• Quantity of calcium carbonate
• Temperature
• Surface area
• Stirring
Method
The experiment we did in the class was we all had thermometers 5 beakers. ...
Fair test
To make it a fair test we had one variable temperature. ...
The output variable we measured was the reaction time all the other variables were kept constant.
Diagram
Apparatus list
I used
• 1g of calcium carbonate
• 100ml of hydrochloric acid
• 1 molar hydrochloric acid to keep the concentration the same
• powdered calcium carbonate to keep the surface area the same
• 1 stirred all the mixtures
Range of readings
I varied the temperature from 30C to 70C in 10C steps.
