In the current discussion about the deity of the Messiah, I would count myself among those who hold to the traditional views as expounded in the Council of Nicaea. And yet, it deeply bothers me to here expressions like "God, the Son" or "Jesus is God". These sort of statements are not found in the New Testament, and I believe that this is according to the intention of the all-wise God who gave us His word. The doctrine of the Scriptures is in generally meant to be intensely practical, and not such as would puff us up with pride in our knowledge. "Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. If any one imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know.
