Can Psychology be Considered a Science?
Since becoming popular in the 1950’s Psychology has been the subject of much debate regarding whether or not it can or should be considered as a science. Whilst psychologists have actively tried to promote psychology as a science there are many of the opinion that psychology lacks any scientific foundation and yet, like religion, prevails in the absence of any fixed testable content. However, in a society where so many important social values are based upon psychology it becomes necessary to establish whether or not it contains any real factual substance. In order to determine whether or not psychology is a science or not it is vital to examine the exact meaning of a science and then the differences between the supposed ‘pure’ sciences and psychology. It is also necessary to question the veracity of science itself.
