Urban schools in America today face an assortment of challenging problems. These problems are economic, social and political. In order to begin the improvement process, first we as a society must be able to correctly recognize and diagnose these problems. As Colligan (1999) states, “Despite these difficulties, urban education is not doomed.” It will take a conscious and strong effort to improve the quality of urban education in America.
The economic problems facing are urban schools is crippling the quality of education our kids receive.
