The big problem is this. When people here things like "Based on a true story," etc., they automatically jump to the wrong conclusions. This movie was loosly based on the man's entire life and is more of a biopic of the times he lived in. They took about 20 years worth of life and condensed it into one school year. Now I don't have a problem with that at all. But because people see the "based on a true story" thing, they automatically assume that this all happened that way. They do a great job of explaining that it's a painting of his life on the commentary and making of documentary, but most people won't see that. So basically I think that people are stupid. I've heard people get up in arms and complaining about how the one jackass in the movie ruined everything in the kids life. Well, that wasn't how it really happened. It's not an actual person people, it's a representation of the things he was up against.
