A Mystery of Heroism by Stephen Crane

The story takes place in Civil War and describes harshness and cruelness of war. They were lacking of supplies and are suffering from hunger and thirst with burglers everywhere and they would even break down houses just for fire wood. The main character is a man name Collins who was suffering from thirst. As he was suffering from thirst his fellows urges him to go and get water so he risks his life and decide to get the water. when he a well he tries to fill up his cantene but he gets impatient and gets a rusty bucked and fills it up instead. He rushes back to his his fellow and a dying officer asks for a sip. first he ignores him but turns back and gives him some water. Then he comes back to his fellows but his fellows argues and fight over the fisrt sip and the bucket drops and noone exept the dying officer gets a sip.
