Summary/Response Writing

Amy Schuman Eng 103, Stobb January 18, 2004 Summary/Response Writing The U. S. Patriot Act poses a serious threat not only to Americans, but also to the Bill of Rights. In the article “Patriot Act Violates Rights,” Dab Morris makes just that point. He claims Attorney General John Ashcoft used the events of September 11, 2001 to push the Patriot Act through the congress. Ashcroft traveled the country to defend the Patriot Act when more than a 150 local governments around the world put out anti-Patriot Act resolutions. Why are these people anti-Patriot Act? The Act violates four if the ten amendments from the Bill of Rights. It takes away your right to a speedy trial, allows religious and political groups to be monitored without any suspicion of criminal activity, permits arrests without a crime, and can possess library records without consent.
