I Just Wanna Be Average,” by Mike Rose is an excerpt from Lives on the Boundary, which discusses factors affecting one’s education and life choices. Rose’s use of vocabulary, how students try to be average, how being average is just being yourself, Rose’s realization of knowledge, and Jack MacFarland as a role model all engaged my interest of Mike Rose’s article. I believe this article makes people think about what really, “average” is and shows a point on how students will rise to meet their potential of becoming better people.
In the article, “I Just Wanna Be Average,” (1989), Mike Rose writes of his experiences throughout school and about how he struggled to overcome his difficulties with education. ... I believe this happens because as Rose becomes more grown up and more knowledgeable, he begins to use more of a variety of vocabulary. ... , I developed further into a mediocre student and a somnambulant problem solver, and that affected the subjects I did have the wherewithal to handle” (159). ...
I believe as another point of this article that I thought was interesting was that as students we try to find something more about ourselves.
