Keats has an understanding of the human condition, which explores the positive and negative aspects of life. This is revealed through his poem ‘Ode to Melancholy’. As the name suggests the poem is a celebration of melancholy, which expresses the necessity of sorrow in the human condition and its close connections with joy.
This is true of the second stanza which presents all the good that is to be gained from experiencing melancholy. ... Melancholy in the form of a cloud is said to be what ‘fosters the droop-headed flowers’, providing powerful imagery as sadness being something that can refresh and re-vitalize.
