John F. Kennedy was elected as the 35th president of the United States. He was the youngest ever elected and was the first Roman Catholic. His presidency was short but productive, painful, but worth it. He was admired by many for his winning personality, lively family, intelligence, tireless energy, vigorous idealism, and courage in time of decision, and seen in the eyes of many as the embodiment of this country’s finest aspirations. He was a democrat and made wise decisions regarding foreign policy with the Soviet Union, Cuba, and Berlin. He proposed a record number of messages to Congress in his first months of office regarding rapid economic growth, depressed areas, reform tax legislation, farm program, conserve and develop natural resources, aid education, and medical care for the aged. Though sent forth to congress, none of these were fulfilled and brought forth until the Johnson administration after Kennedy’s assassination. His presidency was cut short and some say he could have made a significant impact on the country and a remarkable president.
