The play “Hamlet” is moulded round the theme of a revenge tragedy and in the beginning it appears to come across this way, as the ghost speaks of “revenge” and hamlet is horrified to hear that it was his uncle who killed his father. ... ” Hamlet struggles desperately to cope with what he has to do, as he has to concentrate on revenge. ... It is at this point in the play where contrasts between Hamlet and Laertes become evident, Hamlet and his affinity for language and deep thought where as Laertes is lacking in these characteristics and the differences in the way in which they seek their revenge.
Hamlet has burning desire to revenge the death of his father but it is suppressed by the spiritual deep questions he asks himself. We see this transformation in Scene five of Act one, where Hamlet comes to the conclusion “to put an antic – disposition on” to give himself a mask to hide behind and cause confusion towards his enemies.
