Water Pollution

Water covers over seventy percent of the earth’s surface (Water Pollution). Of that seventy percent thirty nine percent of streams, forty five percent of lakes and ponds, and fifty one percent of other water sources are impaired. Forty percent of the overall water in the United States is impaired (USEPA).

The Environmental Protection Agencies states the statistics for the US waters are as follows:
•     19% of rivers and streams
•     43% of lakes, ponds, and reservoirs
•     36% of estuaries
•     6% of ocean shorelines
•     92% of the Great Lakes shorelines
Every year fourteen billion pounds of sewage, sludge, and garbage are dumped into the world’s oceans, and nineteen trillion gallons of other waste also enter the oceans annually, there are only some of the forms of water pollution (Water Pollution 2). ... Sediments that get washed into the water also cause it, this causes fish to have breathing problems, and the depth of the water decreases.
