Motivation is our willingness to expert effort to achieve a goal or perform a task. And also it is the set of forces that cause people to behave in various ways Motivation starts with a need. People search for ways to satisfy their needs and then be having accordingly. Their performance of the behavior results in rewards or punishments. To varying degree, a favorable outcome may satisfy the original need. There are two types of motivators 1. Intrinsic motivator 2. Extrinsic motivator • Intrinsic motivators are often referred to as the ‘psychological reward’, one receives on the job. • Extrinsic motivators are the ‘tangible reward’ like salary, flexibility, contract of service, the work environment and general working conditions. Hierarchy of needs theory According to Abraham Maslow, human needs are arranged in a hierarchy of importance, from physiological, to safety, to social, to esteem and finally to self actualization.
