Jefferson, the man who crafted our constitution and the one whose words are echoed today by those who would defend our right to bear arms and scoffed at by those who would take it away, once said;
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms…disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes…Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence then an armed man (“Quotes”). ... The founding fathers listed it as one of our basic rights, generations of Americans have died for our right to bear arms, and yet people seem so eager to throw that right away, along with the lives of their ancestors. ... The second amendment of the bill of rights is the rights to bear arms. It states that a well regulated militia, being necessary to a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed (Lloyd 356). ... Some argue that one has to be part of a militia or governmental ordained unit such as the military to bear arms. It would also call for stricter guidelines for violence and television in the movies, and a total elimination of arms from society, and the control of dangerous literature (Emerson2). ... There are 96 million gun owners in America, most of whom are willing to fight for their right to bear arms. ... We must learn about our right to bear arms and its history, and we must use the only tool we have to see into the future, our minds.
