Vicinity Corporation Discussion Questions:
1. Suggest some "defined criteria" that the senior management of Vicinity could have used in negotiating contracts (page 4)?
Some of the “defined criteria” that the senior management of Vicinity could have used in negotiating contracts are:
• One of the criteria that have to be seriously considered was to lay down the terms in which revenues can be generated from the content providers. Vicinity put their product on Yahoo and will only earn revenue if their banners are entered 1000 per times. ... Vicinity should negotiate with Yahoo that for every click onto their banner from Yahoo website, a certain amount will have to be paid to them. Vicinity should also list down their methods of charging so as not to destroy their good product and build a brand name on it.
• Vicinity should also try to adopt a partnership with Yahoo to promote their location search product. ... If the cost of product development exceeds the finance capabilities of Vicinity they should not take the job. Vicinity should bare in mind to develop product only within their budget unless more budget is received from the partner they place their product on. ... Vicinity should not promised their customers to do things that will add up too much cost to the company or anything that is not within their product definition.
• Vicinity should also make use of the opportunity to market their product to a large audience.
