fairy tales

Goulla Papadopoullos
Using a selection of classic fairy tales, compare their messages
And motives with contemporary stories. ...

For most people today fairy tales are seen as stories read to us children, full of faraway lands where a

knight in shining armour saves the beautiful princess, then they live happily ever after. ... Before this it was

clear that these tales were specifically for adults. Although these tales were full of imagination, they were also

cruel and gruesome. ...

It wasn’t until the late 17th Century that the name ‘Fairy Tale’ came about. The women of the French

salons gave these wonderful tales their name “Contes Des Fee”. There is no direct translation for this into

English, although “contes” means a tale or short story and “fee” means fairy. Aristocratic women would gather

and make up stories, always trying to outdo each other’s tales, making them more gruesome then the last.

To most part of the twentieth century the original fairy tales have been lost, due partly to the selection of

animations put together be Walt Disney. ...

Fairy tales today have been cleaned up to target a younger audience. Companies such as Disney and

Warner have selected these tales from the many that have been put into writing by the likes of, the Grimms

Brothers, Charles Perraults and the woman of the French salons.

“These original tales are part of our historical folklore and should not be
modified for the sake of commercial sales”

From the sales at the box office, to the money made from the release of the video and DVD they are

transformed into multimillion pound Products.
